Quick Tip: How to Improve Your Situational Awareness
Hey guys, what is going on? Just a quick tip on how to improve your situational awareness and the way to do that is think about situational awareness as peripheral vision. Okay? And if you do that, you'll see how easy it is to train in so many different ways and what's been happening, why people need to do this so much. First off is because we are all on our mobile devices and you see it all the time. People looking down at their phones or their ipads and everything's just closing off around us when we're running - If people are running, they're doing it on a treadmill where nothing's going by us and we need to open really open that up and see what's going on around us in the way to do that again is to understand it's your peripheral vision and I don't want to get into all the details on rods and cones in your eyes and what picks up movement and stuff like that, but all you need to do to start training this is number one, get your head out of your mobile devices as much as you can, like get up, look around.
If you're going to go for a run, go outside because as you're outside, you're going to be seeing all these things moving past you. Your environment's constantly changing. As you walk down the street, keep your eyes straight forward and just look in and see what you can see in your peripheral vision without changing your eyes, keep looking straight ahead and start noticing, hey, wait a minute. Like right now, I'm looking straight ahead. I can see my lights over here and there's aset of books over there and I can see almost everything. And, and as you do that even more and more like, I know what's behind me, I sense that and that is the situational awareness that you want and you're going to be able to build and it's really easy now that you know how to do it.
