Melonie Mac is calling for Twitch to be shut down, citing the platform's tolerance of suggestive content from OnlyFans models that is easily accessible to minors. This demand comes in light of the recent allegations against Dr Disrespect and his admission of messaging a minor.
Beahm, also known as Dr Disrespect, was initially banned by Twitch in June 2020 without explanation. Reflecting on the incident, he shared with PC Gamer, “I was on a buddy’s stream, and features started turning off. Then social media blew up. I got on a call with my team, and after one quick email, it was all over. Both my wife and I were shocked, like, what just happened?”
He continued, “At that moment, I was just digesting it. We weren’t getting any answers. That’s why I didn’t know what to say. We put out one tweet, our statement, and that’s where things stood.” Beahm then apologized, “To my team, community, and industry friends who have supported me, I apologize. I wish I could’ve said all this sooner. You’ve always shown my family and me love and support. We love you guys. If this has made you uncomfortable, I get it. You don’t have to support me anymore, but you’ve always been greatly appreciated.”
Following this statement, Mac called out Twitch for promoting sexually suggestive content. She wrote, “In light of this Dr Disrespect stuff, just remember that women are deliberately streaming sexual content that Twitch even puts on the front page, visible to minors. Shut it all down.”
Mac emphasized that Twitch's management is complicit, responding to an X user, jacrabtree66, who wrote, “And the people in charge at Twitch are subbing to them. The whole site is a disgrace.” Mac replied, “Yup. But myself, Kangmin Lee, and others have received suspensions for speaking on Biblical principles.”
