Rusk County, Texas — On September 14, 2022, shortly after 1:00 a.m. Deputy Shane Iverson pulled over, 29-year-old Timothy Michael Randall for a traffic violation in the area of Highway 64 and CR 4125. Deputy Iverson told Randall he had pulled him over because he saw him run the stop sign at the 4-way stop, which Randall denied having done. He told Randall to get out of the vehicle, which he did, the video shows, but then he appears to struggle with the deputy when he was attempting to handcuff him. A physical struggle ensued. The struggle ended in a single gunshot that killed Randall.

Deputy Iverson shot Randall under his arm, and the bullet exited through his chest cavity, destroying his heart. Randall ran about 20 paces after he was shot, and then collapsed to the ground, where he died. During the pat-down, officials claim Randall “attempted to conceal contraband in his waistband and made furtive movements to his waistband.” The attorney for Rusk County said that the deputy believed Randall was attempting to hide a small gun down the front of his pants, but said it was later found to be a pipe in an eyeglasses case. In October 2023, Randall's mother Wendy Tippitt filed a federal lawsuit claiming wrongful death and civil rights violations.

OGLE COUNTY, Ill. (WIFR) - A 32-year-old man faces a dozen charges in connection with an Ogle County shooting that sent three members of law enforcement to the hospital.

Jonathon Gounaris is charged with four counts of attempted first-degree murder, three counts of aggravated discharge of a firearm, three counts of aggravated battery and two counts of possession without a Firearm Owner’s Identification Card (FOID). The Ogle County State’s Attorney’s Office announced the charges June 18.

According to Ogle County Sheriff Brian VanVickle, law enforcement was called June 12 to a home in the 400 block of Wild Rice Lane in Lost Lake for reports of someone threatening to commit suicide and homicide. After multiple failed attempts to talk to the person, later identified as Gounaris, authorities sent an emergency response team into the home.

Investigators say Gounaris then opened fire on law enforcement spurring a shootout. Three members of the emergency response team and Gounaris were hurt.

In a video news release shared June 18, Sheriff VanVickle said tactical medic Tyler Carls with the Rochelle Fire Department was hit twice in the body armor. Oregon Police Department Sergeant Tad Dominski was shot in the upper arm and Lieutenant Jason Ketter with the Ogle County Sheriff’s Office was shot in the face. Carls and Dominski were taken to KSB Hospital in Dixon and released. VanVickle said Ketter was flown to a Rockford hospital for surgery and released Friday, June 14. Gounaris was also taken to a local hospital for surgery after he was shot in the stomach.

Body camera footage from the shootout was also released by the sheriff’s office. Viewer discretion is advised.

During the investigation, detectives reportedly found multiple guns, a fixed-blade knife, pepper spray and ballistic armor inside the home.

Eugene, Oregon — On the night of April 22, 2024, Washington State law enforcement issued an Amber Alert for a young child kidnapped by his father, 39-year-old Elias Huizar, who was wanted in connection with two murders. On April 23, 2024, Oregon State Troopers, Sgt. OJ Johnson and Sr. Trooper Scott Show located the suspect vehicle heading southbound on I-5 near Eugene. Troopers attempted to stop the vehicle; Huizar didn't comply and a pursuit was initiated. Supt. Casey Codding joined the pursuit. Sr. Trooper Show attempts to stop the vehicle with a redirect. As Huizar vehicle continues to elude, a second redirect is attempted. Huizar stops and fires at responding troopers. 

Sgt. Johnson and Supt. Codding return fire. 30 sec. later the pursuit resumes southbound on I-5. Near milepost 197, Huizar moves to the highway shoulder, crashes into a CMV, and comes to a stop. Pursuing troopers arrived at the crash scene and a team of officers assembled and advanced on the vehicle to attempt contact with Huizar. Huizar was confirmed deceased by a self- inflicted gunshot wound and the 1-year-old child was safely rescued. Elias Huizar, was a former Yakima Police officer and a school resource officer (SRO) at Washington Middle School in Yakima, who in April killed his girlfriend and ex-wife, then kidnapped his own son. In early February, Huizar was arrested for the rape of a 16-year-old.

Strasburg, Virginia — On December 17,2023, at around 11:00 p.m. the Shenandoah County Emergency Communication Center received a 911 call about a woman, 40-year-old Melissa Tompkins, allegedly acting erratically and damaging property at a Ramada by Wyndham hotel in Strasburg. Officer George Rathore responded to the 911 call and encountered Tompkins in the hotel parking lot. When ordered to stop, Tompkins fled, prompting Officer Rathore to chase her back to the parking area. Despite firing two Taser cartridges, Officer Rathore was unable to subdue Tompkins. She was seen grabbing and pulling one of the Taser wires, advancing towards the officer.

In the ensuing confrontation, Tompkins seized Officer Rathore’s police radio receiver, wrapping the cord around his neck. Officer Rathore, in his effort to defend himself, fell to the ground, reached for his baton, and swung at Tompkins’ leg. However, Tompkins managed to grab the baton and struck Officer Rathore in the head. The two separated briefly, with Officer Rathore then drawing his firearm. Despite his shouts of "Stop! I don’t want to shoot you," Tompkins stepped forward, prompting Officer Rathore to fire four rapid shots, hitting Tompkins in the chest. She collapsed onto the asphalt, initially moving slowly before lying still. In the chaotic moments that followed, Officer Rathore was heard shouting, "Why did you do that? Why did you do that," and calling for assistance.

Officer David Rhodes arrived and performed CPR on Tompkins for 6 1/2 minutes while waiting for emergency responders. Officer Bianca Hager also came to the scene to assist. Tompkins was taken to Winchester Medical Center and later died from her injuries. Surveillance footage from inside the hotel before Officer Rathore's arrival showed Tompkins ransacking offices and the front desk area, at times hiding under desks. She was seen pulling out a security monitor from the wall after spotting herself on it and walking in a hallway carrying a fire extingui..

Atlanta, Georgia — On May 18, 2022, Atlanta Police Officers were called to the Fogo de Chão Brazilian Steakhouse on the 3100 block of Piedmont Road after a 911 caller reported an unruly man armed with a gun. Officers arrived at the restaurant about 26 minutes later and found 22-year-old Nygil Cullins, sitting at the bar. Cullins was reportedly a former employee of the business. Officers attempted to escort him out. Cullins was not cooperative and the encounter escalated to a physical altercation.

An officer deployed his taser. However, the taser was not effective. Cullins began heading toward the door of the business when he was tackled by a security guard. At that point, Cullins produced his gun and fired one round, striking the security guard. At least one of our officers then discharged their weapon, fatally striking Cullins. The security guard was taken the the hospital in stable condition. No one else was physically injured during the incident.

A federal lawsuit filed by Cullins family, stated that Cullins suffered such pain from the Taser that he tried to leave but was tackled by a security guard. The family claims that the restaurant's security guard falsely portrayed Cullins as a physical threat, which led to the shooting. They are alleging inappropriate use of deadly force, negligence, and civil rights violations. They are suing the police officers who killed him, the city, the restaurant, the security guard, and the company the guard worked for.

CANTON ‒ Videos released by police and on social media show a city police dog attacking a man on the ground Thursday evening, as a gathering crowd screams criticism at Canton officers for allowing the dog to jump on the man.

"Why you let that dog on him?" a woman yells. "Are you (expletive) serious? Why you let that dog bite him?"

Canton police on Friday afternoon issued a statement that said an internal investigation has been opened into the incident that occurred at 8:45 p.m. Thursday in the 1100 block of 16th Street NW. The department said K-9 officer Nicholas Casto has been placed on paid administrative leave, pending the outcome of the investigation. Casto has been with the Canton Police Department since 2014, state records show.

Mayor William V. Sherer II released a statement on the incident.

"I take these occurrences very seriously," he said. "I understand the community will have questions, and I will ensure that my office will be forthcoming with information as it becomes available.”

Responding to media requests, the Canton Police Department on Friday afternoon released Casto's body camera video and the narratives written by each officer who had responded to 16th Street.

According to the officers' reports, members of Canton's Coordinated Response Team, which is a special investigative unit, stopped a four-door sedan that had failed to use a turn signal when it pulled in front of a house

Officers, who had been in unmarked vehicles, said the two occupants of the vehicle started trying to exit the car immediately, and the driver began to argue with them and saying they could not search his vehicle. One detective said he spotted an open liquor bottle in the rear seat of the vehicle. Since the occupants were underage, officers advised them they would be searching the vehicle, where officers said they found a loaded handgun under the driver's seat.

As officers started to detain the two occupants, people began gathering in the road and sidewalks.
