I am not usually a big fan of wireless headsets for gaming or video editing due to latency issues and signal dropouts, but not so here. This new headset, the first I have tried with the new Bluetooth 5.4 connection, has changed all that for me.

The headset arrived simply packaged in a surprisingly small and rather simple box. Inside was the headset itself, a short charging cable, a USB dongle and a well written and easy on read User Guide. The build quality all seems fine with a rather high end feel to the headset. It is a pity that no carry case was included as this headset is dearer than many rivals and perhaps less robust than some and would benefit from it.

The main selling point for this headset is the dual mode wireless connection it offers. It has the very latest Bluetooth 5.4 system as well as a 2.4Ghz wireless dongle. The Bluetooth connection with a latency of just 48ms is very fast in itself but is beaten by the dongle with a latency of just 24ms. Although the Bluetooth connection is more familiar to most users and is indeed itself super speedy and reliable, I would always suggest using the dongle whenever possible to get the fastest and most stable connection.

The headset is of the over-ear type and does a decent job of passive noise reduction to cut down on outside distractions when gaming although I was hoping there may have been the option for active noise reduction also. The large ear cups are comfortable enough but not excessively well padded and this is true for the headband also. The headset is lighter in weight than I was expecting and would be a excellent for long gaming sessions. A non detachable flexible stalk microphone is provided which can be switched off with a button on the headset. There are on-ear controls for power/play/pause/call control, volume/track navigation, microphone mute and wireless connection mode selection. The is a USB-C charging port on the side next to the proper clicky control buttons. There is no audio out socket and so the headset cannot be used with an audio cable, which is a pity.

The headset uses a 1200mAh Lithium Ion rechargeable battery which gives up to 50 hours of use from a two to three hour USB-C hour charge. I found run times to be exceptional and better than from any other headset of this type I have used before.

Sound quality is excellent, probably the best I have encountered from any gaming headset. There is plenty of bass, mid-tones are clear and well defined and there is no sibilance or abrasive high-end tones. The sound quality is better than most gamers will need and is easily good enough for music and general audio reproduction. In fact In have now replaced my old general purpose computer headset with this one.

The 2.4Ghz wireless dongle connection was lag-free, fast and stable in my tests

TENKER 900W Multifunctional Personal Blender Review

Buy Me A Coffee: https://www.buymeacoffee.com/marcoscu6

This is two devices in one., A powerful personal blender with an additional grinder unit together with two 650ml and one 300ml container with lids.

The Blender arrived well packaged in a large and attractive box inside of which was the Motor Base, Six Blade Blender, Two Blade Grinder, x2 650ml Tall Cups, 300ml Grinder Cup, Filter lid, x2 Travel Lids, Cleaning Brush and a User Guide The User Guide is large, well printed and easy to read and I enclose a scan of it in my unboxing video. All the cups and accessories are made from robust plastic with blades and related mechanisms of stainless steel.

The blender base is large and hefty but quite attractively designed. It has a silk grey finish, no control buttons, just the large T logo on the front with two LEDs below it, one to show the power is on and the other to confirm the operation. This a primarily a smoothy blender and so does not need or possess speed controls or a pulse button. Just press down on the drink container to operate

For a personal blender, it is quite large and I was expecting it to be very noisy but in fact, it was not. Surprising too was the fact that it did not move around too much when in use due to the silicone suction caps built into the base.

To operate it just add the required ingredients to the selected container and screw in place either the blender or grinding unit and then press that unit in place onto the motor base aligning it with the lugs on the underside. Then hold the container firmly in place on the motor and press downwards. The container can also serve as a serving or travel mug when the appropriate leak-resistant lid is screwed in place

I was surprised at the power of the device, as my video shows ice cubes turning into snow in just a few seconds. It seems it will blend virtually anything put into it. It will be fine for smoothies, ice crushing, and drinks, and with a capacity of 650ml for the blender and 300ml for the grinder a generous serving can be made. I plan to use it to make nut butters and am confident it will be able to cope with the task.

This is a simple, powerful blender and smoothy maker with the focus being given to performance and ease of use. Although larger and more powerful rivals are available nevertheless it should be able to perform pretty most tasks thrown at it. It would be perfect for a small kitchen, a person living alone, or for drinks making. The inclusion of an extra travel mug is a nice bonus and reinforces the drink making focus of the device. The current Amazon price of 69.99 before discounts is very attractive and far less than that of the Big Name rivals.

The Good
Low price
Good build quality
Powerful 900w motor
Button Free Operation
Extra Travel Mug Included
Good User Guide

AliExpress Roku TV Remote Control Review

Buy Me A Coffee: https://www.buymeacoffee.com/marcoscu6

Blog: https://marcoscucom.wordpress.com/2024/06/17/aliexpress-roku-remote-control/

The Roku TV I just bought came with a large and impressive remote control, full of buttons and presets I neither want nor need. Worse still, the buttons are unresponsive, hard to use poorly positioned and poorly marked. I am forever having to examine the remote to ensure I am touching the right buttons - the Back and Home buttons are the same size and shape located next to each other, for example.

I needed a new remote, a simple, easy to use remote containing just the buttons needed for everyday use and I did not want to pay too much for it. So I went to AliExpress.

This remote is widely available from a range of sellers across AliExpress and at a range of prices. Just hunt around to find the best buy on the day. I paid just £2.48 for it including shipping but prices vary greatly and change daily on AliExpress.

The remote arrived simply packaged inside an unpadded shipping bag but survived the journey from China OK. Inside the bag was just the remote control itself, with no box or instructions.

The remote is medium sized, similar to many other Roku remotes, and seems well made and built to last. It is intended for use with Roku branded TVs including those from TCL Roku TV, Hisense Roku TV, Onn Roku TV, Element Roku TV, Westinghouse Roku TV, Philips Roku TV, Insignia Roku TV, JVC Roku TV, RCA Roku TV, Hitachi Roku TV and Sanyo Roku TVs. It may work with other Roku products but having a IR signal rather than an RF one, it will need a line of sight connection to the device. I can confirm it works perfectly with my TCL made Roku TV.

On the front of the remote control are buttons for TV Power Back, Home, Replay, Sleep, Options, Track Forward, Track Back, Play/Pause. On the front are presets for Netflix, Prime Video, Hulu, Disney, YouTube, Sling, AppleTV+, and VUDIU. On the side are volume Up and Down and Mute. There is no Headphone socket and no Voice Search or Pairing buttons.

All the buttons work well including all the presets I was able to test here in the UK. The handset is lightweight, sits well in the hand and is simple and intuitive to use.

If you have a Roku TV and are fed up with the oversized and ugly remote supplied with it, then this would be a great buy.

The Good
Great price
Good Build Quality
8 Working Presets
Intuitive Layout

The Bad
No instructions Included
Infrared Not Radio Connection
No Headphone socket
No Voice Search

SKIUDCT N19 Bluetooth 5.3 Headset Review

Blog: https://marcoscucom.wordpress.com/2024/06/15/skiudct-n19-bluetooth-5-3-headset-x/

The N19 mono headset from the curiously named SKIUDCT company, is perhaps mainly designed for the business market. Priced at £29.99 before discounts - yes, there always discounts - has a well made and professional feel to it. Build quality throughout feels first rate and robust with nothing looking likely to fail or fall off anytime soon.

In the box, you receive the headset itself, a clip-fit storage case, 3 buds (one fitted) of different sizes, a rather short USB charging cable and a well written and easy to read user guide.

I was very pleased to see that this headset also features USB-C charging and the latest Bluetooth 5.3 wireless protocol, which shows this is a newly designed unit and not just old tech repackaged. Bluetooth 5 allows the headset to quickly and easily connect, increases battery life and the reception range to 20m as well as giving fewer dropouts and less signal interference.

Looking at the IP7 water resistant headset, which is fully adjustable and configurable to most ear and head shapes, along the top of the twin microphone stalk we see physical buttons for track control and volume adjustment. On the side are is the red/blue status LED and multifunction button for power, play/pause, call handling and phone personal assistant. On the top is the gromett protected USB-C charging port.

This headset has two ways to charge the 100 mAh Lithium Polymer headset battery. The headset can be slotted into the shaped recess inside the case and charged using the case battery. The case itself is charged through the USB-C port and it gives a digital readout of the current battery status. A fully charged 430 mAh case battery should be able to charge the headset four times from flat. The only issue I have with the case is that there is no provision to store the charging cable inside. The headset itself is equipped with a standard USB-C port and this can be used to charge if the case is not available.

Thanks to the use of the latest Bluetooth 5.3 technology pairing to the phone is quick and easy, just pair to the 'N19' device when it shows in the phone's Bluetooth screen. Subsequent pairings will be transparent and automatic.

Call quality was excellent giving a clear distortion-free call with no dropouts or outages during my testing. Perhaps this is due to the ENC noise reduction technologies of the twin microphones or the use of the AptX and AAC codecs, but for whatever reason, call quality is excellent and one of the best I have encountered with this type of device.

So there it is. This is a quality piece of professional grade equipment well suited for use in the office or on the road.

Buy Me A Coffee: https://www.buymeacoffee.com/marcoscu6

Blog: https://marcoscucom.wordpress.com/2024/06/12/campark-tc22-4k-trail-camera/

So what is a trail camera? A trail camera is a camera that is designed to operate unattended outdoors and to automatically capture pictures or video of anything that triggers the built-in motion detector. They are mainly used to monitor wildlife activity but could be used for security purposes also.

This new top of the range camera from Campark , they have about 25 trail cameras available, arrived packed in an attractive mid-market product box inside of which was the camera itself, two tree mount straps, data cable, and a User Guide. Although the camera itself is made of plastic and is rather lightweight (which is perhaps no drawback) build quality seems excellent. The User Guide is a good size, well printed, and easy to read.

The IP66 water-resistant camera uses two built-in rechargeable 18650 batteries with a capacity of 4400mAh. Take note that if used intensively the batteries will run down in just a few days but in normal use should last well with Campark claiming a standby life of up to 12 months. The batteries can be charged using the grommet protected USB-C port on the base of the camera (the internal USB-C port is for data only and will not charge the batteries). The camera also has a large solar panel on the top and this will help to keep the battery topped up. From being fully depleted the camera will automatically detect and begin working from solar charging when it has returned to a usable battery level.

On the front of the device are the two lenses (one for night and the other for day), a light sensor, front and side motion sensors, 850nm night vision infrared LED panel. On the side are clips to secure the front flap which opens out to give access to the colour LCD monitor and control buttons. Inside the door flap is the full-size SD card slot (Class 10 U3 or better), with the USB-C data port for computer connection port and camera reset pinhole. Inside the door flap below the 2.4" 320 x 240 colour LCD screen are an array of buttons for track navigation, menu, mode selection, camera selection, wifi on/off, replay, shot taking and OK. The buttons are a good size and reasonably easy to find and use outside at night. Below them is a turret switch to set the device to OFF/SETUP/On. On the camera base is the metal screw hole for a tripod and the USB-C battery charging port.

The camera is triggered by the front and side facing motion detection sensors (total angle of view 120°) has three sensitivity levels available and at 0.1 seconds the trigger delay is the fastest I have yet tried.

ALTHY H2 Classic1 Hydrogen Water Generator Bottle Review

Hydrogen seems to be the latest health craze and so I thought I'd give it a try. Althy products in this field seem well respected and I found this model widely available for less than £40 on AliExpress although it is currently priced on Amazon at £87 or direct from Althy for £113.67.

In the rather impressive and upmarket box, you receive the unit itself, a USB-C charging cable, an external bottle adapter, a breathing tube set and a user guide. Build quality all seems first rate with the base and top of the unit made from robust plastic and the 380ml bottle from glass.

This unit uses an SPE(Solid Polymer Electrolyte) + PEM(Proton Exchange Membrane) DUPONT N117 membrane which produces hydrogen through electrolysis. , It puts only pure H2 into the water, and Oxygen(O2), Ozone(O3) Chlorine(CL2) are separated are vented out through the base.

According to the Althy website, almost any type of clean water can be used including tap water, but I only use boiled tap water or bottled water with it. Some older and cheaper rivals do not separate chlorine and other inert gases from the water and cause them to be released into the water.

This device generates hydrogen that can be ingested in three ways. The internal glass bottle can be used to add hydrogen to water which can then be decanted and drank. An external spring water bottle can be attached to the base of the unit and the hydrogen added to it. The device comes with a lightweight tube set which can be attached to the top of the unit and the hydrogen gas consumed with air using the nasal cannula.

To use the unit with the internal bottle, fill the bottle up to about 80% or less - space needs to be left to allow space for the gas - and press the button on the underside of the unit. Press the button once: to enter 3-minute mode (blue light shows) and it produces between 900ppb ~ 1200ppb (parts per billion) of hydrogen. Press the button twice: for 10-minute mode (blue light shows) to generate 1500ppb ~ 1800ppb. I have read elsewhere not to use ten minute mode more than twice but looking at the Althy website for this model it says to use 10-minute mode for 2 times for 2000ppb ~ 3000ppb. Press the button for 3 seconds and it enters self-cleaning mode (green light shows)and generates ozone gas - do not drink the self-cleaning mode water!

I have only used it once with an external bottle and this screwed easily to the base of the unit with no adapter needed. The cannula system again I have tried only once and it is easy enough to use and works OK, so far as I can tell.

The unit has a built in 1800mAh rechargeable battery and I found with two of us having four 10 minute mode glasses each daily it needs charging at least

AliExpress Camera Top Aluminium Handgrip Review

Buy Me A Coffee: https://www.buymeacoffee.com/marcoscu6

Blog: https://marcoscucom.wordpress.com/2024/06/05/aliexpress-camera-top-aluminium-handgrip-x/

I wanted to buy an inexpensive but decent quality Top Handle Grip to use with my Sony ZV-E10 camera cage. The going rate on Amazon is around £30 but this one, widely available from multiple shippers at a range of prices from AliExpress under the JLwin brand, cost me just £11 with free shipping from China. Can it be any good?

The grip arrived in a plain and rather battered brown box with no instructions or product information included, not that any was needed. The build quality seems fine. It is made from aluminium alloy and feels reassuringly heavy duty and made to last. I have been using it now daily for about a month and so far the black anodised finish remains unmarked.

The grip, which is 140mm long with a top surface 64mm above the camera is secured to the cage with a ¼" screw with two side pins and secured with a large thumbscrew knob. It features two cold shoe mounts, one verticle and the other horizontal on the handle front and the same at the rear. It features a lockable 15mm Rod aperture and 23 ¼" and ⅜" screw hole mounts. The AliExpress product page mentions an Arca Swiss mount point but this I cannot see.

The grip works fine and allows a wide range of accessories, including a NATO rail, to be fitted to it. I mainly use it to mount my camera monitor and it can do this with several fixing points.

That really, is all there is to it.

This is a decent quality budget priced camera top grip which should answer all your mounting needs except for a NATO rail interface. For the budget price - now reduced to £9.49 at the time of writing - it is a very decent buy.

Arpha A14 4K Voice Control Dash Cam Review

Buy Me A Coffee: https://www.buymeacoffee.com/marcoscu6

Blog: https://marcoscucom.wordpress.com/2024/06/03/arpha-a14-4k-voice-control-dash-cam/

If you want an easy to use, easy to set up well featured 4k dashcam then this might be for you.

This dashcam can give full 4K video – 3840x2160P@25fps - and features app and voice control. You can connect to the camera over wifi to configure and control it as well as to download video and photos. It has onboard GPS as well as a high quality screen and two 24-hour parking modes. There is not much it won’t do.

In the box, you get the camera, a car power adapter with a 12ft cable, 2 sticky mounts, 2 electrostatic mounting sheets, 5 cable clips, a mounting tool, and a user guide. It’s all there, everything you need is included. The build quality all seems fine to me with the packaging and contents all having an upmarket feel to them.

The f1.8 camera has a wider than average 170-degree angle of view and gives a clear, detailed and sharp WDR image with a range of recording options available: 3840 x 2160@25fps, 2560 x 1440@30fps, and 1920 x 1080@30fps. I have to say that the video quality at any selected size even in low light is first class, one of the best yet for me on any dashcam, but I keep mine set to 4K@25fps for maximum number plate reading quality. The only downside is that MP4 video files even with H264 compression can be very large and even a 64GB card will soon fill up, so install the largest size card that you can. When it receives power the cameras are designed to record automatically and continuously in short segments overwriting the oldest when the card is full, the tiny internal Super Capacitor battery will keep recording for a few seconds after the power goes off, handy in case the power is cut during a crash. When bumps or sharp braking is detected the camera G-Sensor will flag the current segment and not overwrite it in case an incident has taken place. This can mean that the card will fill up over time. I would advise buying the largest capacity Class 10 or better card – maximum size is 256Gb – and formatting it regularly to delete all the current segments, marked and unmarked.

Fixing the camera discreetly behind the mirror on my Toyota Aygo was easy enough and the cable was easily long enough. A car cigar lighter cable is provided but, with most modern cars having USB ports, any suitably long USB-C cable should work.

The dashcam is controlled and configured using the ARPHA VISION app connected to a Wifi hotspot generated by the camera. You can select to operate in the various recording modes listed above and even watch live streaming video. Various other options can be set including the audio recording, loop recording time, etc. Recordings can also be viewed on the app or downloaded.

Blog: https://marcoscucom.wordpress.com/2024/05/28/euki-compressed-air-duster/

It always used to be that to keep your photographic equipment dust and dirt free a can of compressed air was used with a small hand blower brush for delicate areas. This new air blower from EUKI replaces them both.

The device resembles a miniature hair dryer although with the weight and build quality of a professional piece of photographic kit as to be expected for the £89.99 (€99.99) pre discount price (don't worry, there are always discounts).

In the rather premium level box, you receive the air blower itself, a USB-C charging cable, a 10 piece accessory set consisting of brushes of various sizes and shapes, a rayther posh branded storage bag and a well written and easy to read user guide. Build quality throughout is excellent if not premium grade.

The heart of the kit is the 145 x 95 x 39 mm 306g blower which is reassuringly weighty and made from metal and heavy duty plastic. On the front is a detachable magnetic nozzle unit and at the rear is the air intake with the stainless steel impeller blades visible within.

The blower is powered by a 6000mAh rechargeable battery with a 2.5 hour charge giving between 12 to 48 minutes of use depending on the power level selected. At full power the blower runs at 150000 RPM, generates 180g of air pressure, and with a peak wind speed exceeding 52m/s (equivalent to the wind speed of a level 3 hurricane), ensuring powerful performance. Levels 1 and 2 are 6000 and 9000 RPM accordingly.

Long press the power button below the rear air intake to switch the unit on with the default maximum power level 3 being selected, and short press the button to set a lower level with the blue LED display confirming the selection. Turn the blower turned on using the equally small button at the front below the nozzle. Removing the magnetic nozzle allows for a more diffuse and less focused air dispersal.

I have found this device to be far easier to use than a compressed air can, more precise in operation and with no danger of water precipitation from the excellent process. It is less targeted than a blower brush but the added sustained power when at the lowest level can make up for this. The restraints of battery operation and the disappointingly slow charging rate will mean that care needs to be taken for long cleaning sessions, but most users will not be undertaking these.

Although by no means inexpensive, the compact size, high power and versatility of use will mean this device will find a place in the gadget bag of many photographers or anyone working with delicate or precision equipment.

This is the first neck fan of this type I have tried and I have to say it does have a very pleasant cooling effect on a warm day. This particular model from Hinersound is described as designed for women and I guess that is why it felt rather a snug fit for me - not unpleasantly tight but close fitting rather than loose.

In the rather up market box, you receive the neck fan itself, a USB-C charging cable and a well written, nicely printed but rather unnecessary user guide. Build quality all seems excellent and the neck fan does have a rather upmarket feel that reassures me somewhat about the price which at £23.99 before discounts is rather higher than some less of the cheaply made rivals.

The 208 x 180 mm fan has a built-in USB-C rechargeable 5200mAh Li-Ion battery, or to be more accurate, two 2600 batteries, one for each of the two fans. Charging takes around four hours and should give you between 5 and 16 hours depending on the fan speed selected. There are three fan speeds available: 2950, 3970 or 5000 rpm at a noise level of just 25db. The neckband offers a full 360° airflow, around the rear of the neck as well as the sides controlled by a single soft touch button on the side.

The neck fan is lightweight, comfortable and easy to wear and hopefully should help to keep you cool all day. It is robust, well made and built to last and can be kept clean easily with just a damp cloth.

Excellent Build Quality
Effective Cooling
Low Noise
Simple Operation

AliExpress Smart Watch “For Samsung Galaxy 6” Review

Blog:

The last watch I tried from AliExpress looked great but inside had little in common with the prestigious watch it closely resembled. Even so for the looks alone it proved to be a decent buy when compared to other budget smartwatches.

The Samsung Galaxy Watch 6 is a high quality premium grade smartwatch currently priced at around £230 on Amazon. The AliExpress Smart Watch “For Samsung Galaxy 6”.- which very closely resembles the expensive original - is widely available across AliExpress from multiple sellers at a range of prices. The one I am looking at today is priced at just me just £15.17 including taxes and shipping.

The AliExpress watch has a 1.4 3" 360x 360 display, a stainless steel body and a 300mAh battery with wireless charging. The product page claims a wide range of features including GPS, NFC, notifications, wireless charging, Blood pressure, SP02, sleep and heart rate tracking, Bluetooth calling, music control, camera control, and multiple sports tracking.

In the box are the watch, silicon strap, charging cable and a User Guide in English. The presentation is OK but far from premium grade, the box is low to mid market but attractive enough for the price.

The build quality was not so good as the last AliExpress watch but far from being terrible. The watch body feels reasonably weighty and although it does not feel cheap and throwaway neither does it feel classy or high end. The watch strap is silicone with a simple traditional style metal buckle which again feels mid to low end. So far, as regards the hardware, I think this to be a budget priced watch but from a well known name. Things start to change when looking at the magnetic charger which is lightweight and seems cheaply made The user guide too is not good, being poorly written, badly printed and hard to read.

The magnetic charger works well enough but the magnetic connection is not very strong and it is prone to falling off. I found that I could get about 36 hours of normal use from a full charge.

Turning the watch on for the first time I have to say I was very fairly impressed by the display, which is bright colourful and detailed. The watch paired easily to my phone running the required NewFit app although it identified the watch as being the T5 Pro. The phone link seems pretty stable and I have not yet needed to manually reconnect.

AliExpress 'Beats Fit Pro” Wireless Headset Review

More Info and Purchase: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005006571540875.html

Buy Me A Coffee: https://www.buymeacoffee.com/marcoscu6

These earbuds are available from multiple sellers on AliExpress under a range of names and prices. Both the packaging and the buds themselves closely resemble the well known Dr Dre Beats Fit Pro, currently priced at £159.99. These AliExpress buds - listed as: 'Wireless Headset Noise Reduction Bluetooth Headset with Waterproof Sport Headphones for Beats Fit Pro" -cost me £8.52 with shipping and taxes bringing the final price to £10.22. Both the packaging and the buds themselves do very closely resemble the Beats Fit Pro buds from Dr Dre.

Some of the latest boxes are ticked – such as Bluetooth 5.3, and USB-C charging. The headset is lightweight but seems robust, well made and unlike many of the rivals not hard to remove from the magnetic case.

In the box, you receive the wireless earbuds, charging case, charging cable, spare gels along with a simple and rather poorly printed User Guide. Despite the light weight, everything has a quality feel to it but without the flimsiness of some rivals.

There was a time when you had to pay plenty to get decent quality True Wireless Earbuds but the introduction of Bluetooth 5.0 seems to have changed all that. Before Bluetooth 5.0 all but the most expensive TW earbuds would continually drop out, crackle, pop and generally prove more trouble than they were worth. The earbuds claim to use the very latest Bluetooth 5.3 technology which is supported by the latest high-end smartphones but of course, they will also work with older Bluetooth devices. Bluetooth 5 adds a longer range and greatly improves both the stability of the wireless connection and battery life and v5.3 gives better sound quality and reliability.

First time pairing could not be simpler and took just a few seconds. Simply remove the two buds from the case and pair them in the usual way to your phone looking for the name ‘Wireless Fit pro’. Subsequently, taking the buds from the case powers them on, and they connect to each other and to the phone automatically, returning them to the case turns them off and begins charging. The buds have voice confirmation but by default this is in Chinese, when the buds are not connected tap the MFP bud button three times to switch to English.

You should get between 2 and 4 hours of music time from each 60 minute bud charge and several recharges from the battery case. There is a small but useful LED display on the case that shows you the current charging status and level. These wing format buds are easy to remove from the magnetic case and holding them by the wing prevents accidental button presses, for me a major selling point.

I was interested to see how the new WISELAZER H9 compares to my current projector, the WiMiUS P28, which when I bought it was priced around the same as this one. The all new WISELAZER promises much with enhanced brightness, automatic focus and automatic keystone adjustment as well as the presence of a full Android operating system with access to the Google Play Store with some handy pre-installed apps.

In the box were the projector, infrared remote control, UK Power Cable, HDMI Cable, cleaning cloth and a nicely printed and well-written User Guide. The best way to learn about what this unit does and how to use it is to study the User Guide, and so I include a scan of it in my video.

Build quality seems fine, the has a new form factor and looks very different to most projectors in this price bracket but is substantial enough to feel hefty and robust and well able enough to absorb the odd knock.

The projector itself is larger than I expected with a pretty minimalist design featuring an attractive blue grey matt finish with soft touch backlit buttons for -power, Bluetooth and menu navigation on the top surface and just the lens and an infrared receiver on the front. On the rear are two USB ports, HDMI, audio out, AV ethernet and power-in ports as well as an infrared receiver and power in socket.

On either side are the two speaker grills. and on the rear the air filter bay with a removable filter inside. On the base is the standard sized ¼" thread tripod mounting point and chunk feet for table mounting, remove the rubber grommets from the feet to give access to the ceiling mount bracket points. The remote is full-sized with proper clicky buttons and is simple and intuitive to use. It features buttons for power, input source, mouse, menu navigation, menu, back, home, volume up/down, mute and focus adjustment

Natively, the unit supports 1920 x 1080P resolution but will downscale 4K files seamlessly enough. I found that some more arcane types were not recognised when played directly through USB but since I use the projector with an HDMI connected Fire TV stick -with an adjacent USB port to power it – this was not an issue. Although the projector itself has a 5G wifi connection, the Fire TV stick’s built-in wifi gives me all I need both from the internet and my network NAS as well as giving good quality in-sync audio.

Audio comes from two built-in speakers and is the best I have heard yet from a projector and easily drowns out the pleasingly muted 30db fan. I suspect the larger body allows bigger and bassier speakers to be used. The projector has built-in Bluetooth 5 and this gives me the option to use external Bluetooth speakers. The native 5G wifi allows for OTA firmware updates as well as phone and other smart device connections.

XREXS Sink and Drain Plunger Review

Blog:

Traditional plungers have a wooden handle with a rubber bell head which holds air which is then forced down the drain to clear the blockage when the plunger is pushed downwards. This new model from XREXS differs in that it has an all plastic construction with a larger head allowing it to force more air down the drain to free the blockage.

The ‎27 x 12 x 12 cm 120g plunger arrives unboxed and unbagged, which is better for the environment but does detract a bit from the first impression of the product. Build quality is all fine, the plunger and handle are made from a single piece of extruded flexible plastic with nothing likely to fail or fall off anytime soon, as you would expect with such a simple item. The all plastic construction has the advantage of making the plunger easier and more hygienic to clean after use.

Operation is just the same as with any other plunger. Position the plunger over the sink drain and cover any overflow or air outlet with a damp cloth to form a seal. Add enough water to the sink to cover the plunger head and then, pressing down firmly, push firmly down on the plunger to force air down the sink to clear the blockage. Be sure to always maintain the seal over the overflow outlet as you do so.

That really is all there is to it. This is like a normal sink plunger on steroids and will clear the blockages too impacted for traditional plungers to shift. Not a bad buy for just the current Amazon discount price of just £7.99.

Kalado KCV01 Cordless Vacuum Cleaner Review

The new Kalado KCV01 Cordless Vacuum Cleaner comes with two interchangeable heads, an extension tube, wall mount, UK power adapter, replaceable battery, spare filter, and a well written and easy to read user guide, all presented in a rather upmarket box.

The device of necessity is lightweight and at just 2Kg it is the lightest vacuum cleaner of this type I have yet tried, but seems well made and robust and can be almost fully disassembled for cleaning. It has a 5 Stage Filtration system and comes with two washable H11 HEPA filters, one prefitted. The unit is battery powered with a replaceable Li-ion 2200MaH x7 battery which can be charged in place or removed from the cleaner. It has a 250w 80000 RPM motor that has three power levels with a maximum 26000Kpa powerful suction performance. It defaults to the middle power setting which gives around 20 minutes of use, the lowest setting giving up to 40 minutes and around 14 minutes in high power mode following a charge of five hours from flat. Select the power level using the button on the motor unit. Unlike most others I have tried this unit has a display screen showing the current power level and alerts for full dust bin and Floor Brush cleaning. In use, it is quieter than most at just 65 dB.

It has several heads and accessories:

Floor Brush
This is a pretty standard floor cleaning head with a motorised rotating brush and LED lights. The head can swivel side to side as well as forward and back which can give it something of a mind of its own at times but it works well when used with the extension tube.

Dusting Brush
This is smaller and more softer acting than the floor brush. It is non-motorised with softer bristles and is designed for light dusting work rather than more aggressive cleaning. You might use it when cleaning a bookcase, blinds a TV screen or any other delicate surface that would be damaged by the abrasive action of a rotating brush and being smaller and lighter it is much easier to manipulate.

Crevice Tool
This is a pretty standard crevice tool and this like the other heads just clicks on and off with a large easy to see locking button.

Extension Tube
This is worth a mention because it is fully extendable with clicking preset stops giving a reach of between 92 and 112cm, so hopefully no stooping will be needed.

The cleaner has been designed with ease of use in mind and with that in mind cleaning the device could not be simpler. The main dust container has an easy access release button on one end and can be upended and emptied with just a single touch. For more thorough cleaning the dust bin filter and HEPA filter can be removed from the body with a twist for rinsing under the tap.

The best way to learn about what this unit does and how to use it is to study the User Guide, and so I include a scan of it in my video.

Build quality seems fine, the unit is smaller than my current one, which quite large and ungainly, but it is still substantial enough to feel hefty and robust enough to absorb the odd knock. The projector itself is pretty minimalist with an attractive dark grey matt finish with the only button one for power on the top surface. On the back are two USB ports, two HDMI ports, audio out and power-in ports and an infrared receiver. On one side is the air filter intake and on the other is the air filter outlet and recessed knurled focusing ring. On the base are the mounting points hidden behind removable plugs, the access panel for the air filter and the rake angle adjustment knob. The remote is full-sized with proper clicky buttons and is simple and intuitive to use. Sadly there is no tripod mount hole on the underside, which is a pity and a hard to understand omission.

Natively, the unit supports 1920 x 1080P resolution but will downscale 4K files seamlessly enough. I found that some file types were not recognised when played directly through USB but since I use the projector with an HDMI connected Fire TV stick -with an adjacent USB port to power it – this was not an issue. The projector has built-in Bluetooth and this gives me the option to use external Bluetooth speakers, although in use I find it more convenient to connect them to the Firestick’s own Bluetooth. The native 5G wifi allows for OTA firmware updates as well as phone and other smart device connections.

Although it is slightly less bright than my old projector this is more than made up for by the increased contrast ratio of 12000:1 compared to 8000:1 of my old machine. The is a real advance with more shades of black and gradations of white visible that gives far less muddy nighttime scenes and fewer burnt-out skies.

Video quality is excellent with a wall-filling image bright enough for curtains drawn daytime use. At night the image is even better as regards colour, dynamic range and contrast. The image from this projector beats my current one and is both sharper and more

FOTGA Nikon AI Lens to Sony E-Mount Adapter Review

More Info and Purchase: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/32878533564.html

Buy Me A Coffee: https://www.buymeacoffee.com/marcoscu6

Blog:

This is my latest purchase from AliExpress and it cost me just £6.72, yes, less than £7.

This is a Nikon AI to Sony E-Mount lens adapter and it allows you to fit a Nikon AI Bayonet mount lens onto a Sony E-Mount camera body. Yes, it works and can take pictures every bit as good as if a Nikon camera or Sony Lens were used. It should work with even the oldest Nikon AI bayonet mount lens.

So how does it work and does it affect the characteristics of the lens?

The true focal length of your lens won’t change when using an adapter.

However, if you’re using a full frame sensor lens with an ASP-C or cropped sensor camera such as my Sony ZV-E10, this will change the equivalent or perceived focal length. The camera will apply a crop factor in the lens field of view so you can only capture a smaller part of it – your image will be cropped. This means that a lens that would be 50mm on a full frame sensor camera would effectively be about 70mm on an ASP-C sensor camera.

One thing to keep in mind is flange focal distance, which for an interchangeable lens camera is the distance from the mounting flange (the interlocking metal rings on the camera and the rear of the lens) to the film or image sensor plane. For Sony E-Mount cameras this is 18mm. Poorly designed adapters work as extension tubes and change the effective FFD of the lens allowing for a closer focusing point but meaning that infinity focusing is not possible. The design of this Fotga adapter creates the same flange distance to the sensor as a Sony lens would have and so maintains focusing capabilities.

So how do you use it?

Remember that there is no electronic interaction between the camera body and the lens. There is no autofocus and no aperture control. The only modes you can use are Manual and Aperture Priority. You have to manually focus the lens and set the aperture f-Stop on the lens itself but the camera can determine the required shutter speed if required. I always work in manual mode, setting the shutter speed first and then stopping the lens down to get the correct exposure using the camera body metering. Remember first to change the camera settings to allow shutter release with no lens fitted as the camera cannot detect that the lens is in place.

As far as I am aware the adapter should work with any Sony E-Mount camera and these are listed as compliant on the AliExpress product page - and I note that the ZV-E10 is not listed although the adapter works fine with it.

This is my latest AliExpress buy, and I think it is rather a good one. Like most items from AliExpress it is widely available there from a range of sellers at a range of prices, so shop around. I paid just £7.55 including tax and shipping to the UK.

It took about two weeks to arrive and in the padded shipping bag was just the rucksack in a plain plastic bag. No paperwork or product box was included.

The 33×26.5×12.5cm rucksack itself is made from a reasonably thick but lightweight nylon material secured with a double zip around the edge. On top is a padded grab handle and on the rear two adjustable padded shoulder straps. On each side is a mesh pocket and mounting strap. The rucksack has no internal frame and can be easily folded or rolled up for storage. Inside, which is well padded and offers decent protection, are a range of removable padded dividers which can be custom fitted to suit your equipment and secured in place with velcro along the top and sides of each. There are two large zipped mesh pockets on the inside of the rucksack flap,

The rucksack is described as being waterproof but there is no IP rating for it and I think showerproof might be more accurate. In general, the build quality is fine. This is no heavy duty rucksack and is designed to protect and carry photographic or other items in the home, car or bus rather than backpacking or field use.

The main selling point has to be the price and for less than £8 you will get a nice little rucksack that will offer a decent level of protection for general everyday use.

As you get older getting your shoes on is not quite the easy task it used to be and a shoehorn can make life much simpler. An extra long shoe horn like this means that shoes can easily be slipped on without needing to bend down. I am not at that stage yet, but time marches on for us all.

What you get here is a single long, well made and ergonomically designed shoe horn designed to make getting your feet into over-tight or poorly designed footwear less of a task than it would be otherwise.

Packing and presentation are minimal, which is fine for me, with the shoe horn simply packaged in a shaped plastic bag with protection for the handle grip. No paperwork or other items were included and none were needed.

The stainless steel shoe horn weighs 130g and is 30 cm in length (12 inches) with a hanging hook bend and handle on one and a shaped area to support the foot on the other. There is a hole on the grip end through which a short hanging strap is attached.

This shoe horn is robust, well made and designed for long term use. It is shorter than some which makes it easier to store and to manipulate when seated. I found it simple and easy to use and it sits well in the hand. The smoothly well finished metal construction means it will not snag on clothing, prove abrasive to the skin nor bend under stress.

Storage is easy as it can be hung from a radiator or any handy projection and is large enough not to be easily mislaid.

Priced at £6.45 this is not the very cheapest out there but this is a well made, cleverly designed item, built to last that may well make your life just a little bit easier.

Blog:

There once was a time when true wireless earbuds were expensive, unreliable and sounded terrible, but those days have gone. Technology has moved on and gone are the days of dropouts, thin sound and flimsy construction. This one is no exception and is a perfectly good if rather unexciting new entry into a very busy marketplace. The main difference between this and the last almost identical headset I reviewed is the larger driver size of these headsets and the increased battery time.

All the latest boxes are ticked – Bluetooth 5.3, USB-C charging, IP7 water resistant. This set in addition is robust, well made and unlike many of the rivals not hard to remove from the magnetic case.

In the box, you receive the wireless earbuds, charging case, charging cable, spare gels and a well printed and easy to read User Guide. Despite the light weight, everything has a quality feel to it but without the flimsiness of some rivals.

I am not usually a fan of the AirPod style stem design but it usually does make for superior sound quality, more secure fitting and easier handling. This new headset is compact in size, both the buds and case, with a glossy black finish that is otherwise similar in design to the many rivals out there.

The earbuds use the very latest Bluetooth 5.3 technology which is supported by the latest high-end smartphones but of course, they will also work with older Bluetooth devices. Bluetooth 5 adds a longer range and greatly improves both the stability of the wireless connection and battery life and v5.3 gives even better sound quality and reliability.

First time pairing could not be simpler and took just a few seconds. Simply remove the two buds from the case and pair them in the usual way to your phone looking for the name ‘I53’. Subsequently, taking the buds from the case powers them on, and they connect to each other and to the phone automatically, returning them to the case turns them off and begins charging.

You should get at least 8 hours of music time from each 90 minute bud charge and about 40 hours in total from a fully charged case, which also takes just 90 minutes to charge. There is a small but useful LED display on the case that shows you both the case and bud charging status and level. These stem format buds are easy to remove from the magnetic case and holding

I wanted a simple close-up lens kit to use with my Sony ZV-E10 camera which has a fairly unusual 40.5mm external lens thread. This budget priced set from AliExpress seemed to fit the bill. I paid £10.93 for it but the same kit is widely available at a range of prices, brand names and sellers across AliExpress and in 13 filter sizes from 37mm to 82mm.

It took a couple of weeks to arrive undamaged from China and when it did the package contained four lens set plus a storage pouch. The four close-up lenses - rated +1. +2,+4, and +10 dioptres all seemed pretty decent quality, well made from metal with optically good glass lenses. Each lens is marked with the filter size and magnification strength around the edge. The lenses have exterior threads to allow them to be screwed together to obtain higher magnification levels.

The generic pouch is not so good as it is clearly designed to hold much larger lenses and these rather small 40.5mm lenses do have a habit of falling out. That said the pouch itself is reasonably well made from a heavy duty velcro secured cloth with transparent interior pockets for the lenses.

I am very happy with the images obtained from the lenses although if I needed to use them more often I might decide to upgrade to professional quality lenses from a more prestigious photographic brand.

If you need a decent quality set of macro lenses and don't want to pay too much then for the budget price this is a pretty solid buy.

I only actually take three prescribed daily pills but I do take quite a few vitamin and mineral supplements in a pathetic attempt to keep healthy and ward off advancing old age. Too many pills and capsules to fit comfortably into my old daily pill box causing it to pop open from time to time resulting in tablet confusion and rage. Time to get a new and larger box to dispense my daily health allowance. For the size and features this pill box from Fullicon seemed a good buy for just £7.99.

In the box, which bears the Aquaseal name - Fullicon, I suspect, are resellers - I received the pill box, and a set of 14 daily marked stickers, no instructions or user guide was included or needed. The pill box weighs in at 1 hefty 140g and is 22.58 x 5.79 x 2.9 cm in size with each of the seven daily boxes being 20.8 x 40 x 30 mm, large enough to hold about nine 45mm capsules. Each compartment is grommet sealed and secured by a clip and is designed to be impact and water resistant. This does seem to work as in my tests I have given it a good soaking under the tap and dropped it onto a stone floor from head height several times without making an impression on it. That said, I would not advise hitting it with a hammer or immersing it in water for any length of time.

The size and build quality are the selling point of the box but also the main issue with it. The catch is a bit fiddly to use and those with arthritic fingers might find it challenging, also the box is too large, colourful and heavy to be discreetly tucked away or easily packed into a bag.

At nearly 9 by 2.5 inches in length, this has to be the largest weekly pill box I have yet tried and not just the largest but also the best made, best protected and most robust. The price is great and the build quality first class but it may well be too large and heavy for some users, so think carefully before purchasing.

This is a fairly traditional timer, battery powered and with a large and non-backlit LCD screen. The main selling points are that it contains two separate timers each of which has its own display and can used together with or independently of the other one and that it features a pair of brightly coloured front panel LEDs to help monitor the active alarms.

In the simple but attractive box, you receive the 11 x 8 x 3 cm 99g timer, lanyard strap, two AAA batteries and a well written and easy to read user guide. Build quality seems fine, not premium but robust and built to last.

On the front of the timer is a large two line LCD screen, one line for each of the timers. On the left of the screen are two large LED buttons. the top for channel one and the other for channel two. When selected the channel button flashes green during the last 50 seconds of the countdown process and red on completion with the audio beep alarm also sounding. Along the bottom are buttons for Memory, Hours, Minutes, Seconds and Start/Stop. On the side of the unit is a slider switch for power off, audio alert off, and audio alert on.

Operation is simple enough. Set the power On slider and press the selection button for the timer you need, press the Hour and Minute buttons together to reset it to zero. Press the Start/Stop but to start timer counting up and again to cancel it. To count down, when your selected timer is set to zero then use the Hour, Minute, and Second buttons to input the desired time and then Start/Stop to begin or pause the timer. A loud audio alert beep will sound and the timer channel LED will flash Red when the countdown ends. The timer will then automatically start counting upward, a nice touch that will tell you how long ago the countdown finished. The two timers can be used independently of each other and each timer will remember the last time count up or down paused state. The Memory button can be used to save a time period to be used as the default for each timer. The maximum period for the timer is 99 Hours, 59 minutes and 59 Seconds.

That is all there is to it. This device is two simple and easy to use timers in one. It can be used in the kitchen but is just as happy on the sports field or in the workplace, Currently priced at just £11.99 I think it is a pretty good buy.

Blog: https://marcoscucom.wordpress.com/2024/04/26/xrexs-rechargeable-kitchen-timer/

This is a simple but rather impressive looking kitchen timer.

In the box, you receive the timer itself, a USB charging cable and a well written and easy to read user guide. Build quality all seems fine and the device has a premium feel not often found in budget devices such as this one.

The LED display takes up all the front panel with the controls in large, well marked and easy to use buttons around the side. On one side is a slider for the power and screen display. There are three screen modes - off, standard brightness, high brightness and power saving (10 second auto off). On the other side is a slider for the alert options - standard audio, loud audio, flashing screen and vibration. Around the top are standard buttons to program the timer along with a timer reset and start/pause buttons.

The 7.2 x 11 x 2 150g cm unit contains a 1000mAh lithium which is charged through the USB-C port on the side with a status LED confirming charging. The LED screen also has a battery status icon to alert you when charging is needed. The timer will still function when charging.

Like all kitchen timers, this one can count up and down and give audio and visual alarms after a preset period. The blue LED display is large, vibrant and easy to see even in a bright and well lit kitchen. At first, I was surprised that the unit did not also function as a clock, but on balance, I think that keeping things simple is the best way and that it would be a mistake to complicate things by offering non timer related options.

Operating it is as simple as you might expect. When the front panel display is set to zero, pressing the start/stop buttons begins the timer counting upward. To count down, press the rest button to zero the display and then use the hour, minute and second buttons to input the period you want to a maximum of 9 hours, 59 minutes 59 seconds. Long press unit buttons to fast scroll the time. The side buttons are used to select the display and alert options you require. The device is easy to use with a minimal learning curve and works perfectly every time.

Currently discounted to £11.69 on Amazon, if you need an easy to use, easy to see timer that looks a cut above the rest, then this would be a great buy.

I have tried quite a few Bluetooth record players before but never one like this. The others all worked OK but were all pretty cheaply made with poor quality internal speakers and components clearly adapted from other devices. Most annoyingly of all they were all Bluetooth in only - you could play external sources over the internal speakers but not play from the turntable directly to a Bluetooth speaker or other external devices. Finally, none of them had the sort of looks you would want on show in your living room.

That is not the case with this record player. It looks fantastic with a distinctly upmarket look and feel to it. The build quality is heavy duty and built to last, made from wood with pineapple pattern anodized alloy metal control knobs. The sound quality from the internal speaker is great for the size and a cut above that from the cheapo rivals. Unlike the others, this one does indeed have Bluetooth Out and it was a quick and easy matter to send audio to my phone and to Bluetooth speakers It has one of the best damping systems I have yet encountered in any turntable.

In the box can be found the turntable, turntable platter, spindle, turntable pad, power cable with plug, and drive belt. My pre-production unit was not supplied with a User Guide but no doubt this will be included in the final version and a UK plug cable will replace the EU one I received. The system comes with an excellent Audio-Technica magnetic cartridge preinstalled but perfectionists may wish to change this for their preferred model. Build quality all seems first-rate although as with all precision instruments, delicate handling will be needed to protect it.

The turntable needs to be assembled by the user, but this is quick and easy to do. Firstly, unscrew and remove the travel lock under the platter location to free the turntable suspended spring damping mechanism, then insert the spindle in the hole (it can only go in one way), fit the belt to the underside of the platter and hook it around the drive shaft located just above the travel lock before placing the platter onto the spindle and then the pad onto the platter. On the rear panel you can plug in the power supply, connect external speakers and select the 33⅓ or 45 turntable speed.

Operating the turntable is simple and will come naturally to anyone familiar with standard hi-fi turntables. There are just two large pineapple pattern anodized alloy knobs, one for operating mode and the other for volume. Use the top knob to select Bluetooth mode, standard speaker mode or power off, with audio prompts to confirm the selection. The lower knob sets the audio volume. After placing the disc on the turntable platter and releasing the tonearm lock simply use the arm lifter and the turntable will rotate at the selected speed, lower the stylus gently onto the disc using the damped mechanism. After playing lift and replace the arm and the turntable will stop.

Most so-called Bluetooth record players just allow the device to play external Bluetooth audio through the internal speakers of the record player. This is the first I have tried that allows music from the turntable to be played directly on external speakers or other devices using Bluetooth, and I was pleased to see an up to date Bluetooth 5 connection is used for this. Pairing to an external device could not be simpler and after the first connection will be completely automatic with audio prompts to confirm the connection.

Sound quality through the internal speakers, two 10w tweeters, and two 15w mid-woofers, was fine for the size and considering the limitations of the format but for serious listening, external speakers should be used. I tried it with a pair of decent quality Nylavee SK600 speakers which can support both a Bluetooth and cable connection and the sound quality was excellent either way.

This is a very impressive looking turntable that works well, sounds good and is simple to operate with a minimum of unneeded and unwanted features. The inclusion of Bluetooth might seem to be just such a novelty but in fact, it is transparent in use, works well and sounds just as good as a wired connection.

Drawbacks? Well, the turntable is very finely engineered and needs to be handled carefully and looked after, this is not the sort of unit to be left in your teenager's bedroom, and I am sorry no turntable cover is not included. Finally, with a final suggested price of $549 it is by no means cheap, although it is currently available on Kickstarter for $349 which is rather more reasonable.

This is a fantastic turntable, unlike any other, I have used, that sounds as just good as it looks!
